Dirt Classic - 200 Miles
When we were created the Vermont Fall Route, we came upon many dirt roads too magical to forget. This 200 mile ribbon of dirt flows over crests and is flanked by hardwoods. We'll catch our breath with scenic views from high above the valley. All the while, a full chorus of webers will be our accompaniment. We move swiftly through the forest like animals. We were meant to do this.
The car you drive for Auto Fondo should be one that you are comfortable getting dirty. Dust, gravel, and stone chips are all part of the game here. A historic Alfa rally car, a BMW 2002, a 911 deemed "driver" are all fair game. Perhaps a blue Lusso will make an appearance. The roads are smooth dirt, not car-breakers.
The route stretches from central VT through Rochester, Waitsfield, Warren, and Montpelier. Travel is primarily on well maintained dirt roads with minimal traffic. There will be brief transits on pavement to bridge dirt sections. There are two unpaved gap roads. Roads will be open, so driving with caution is mandatory. Though there will be opportunities to get to know your car better.
